FF6 (Final Fantasy VI): SNES
Plot: 9.5/9.75
Music: 10/10
Graphics: 8/8.5
Enjoyment: 10/10
-This game is one, if not the most fun game on the SNES. You must play this or your going to be missing more than a hippi missing Woodstock.
<EricZLink's Comments: This game is definetly one of the best RPGs ever. It beats all the Final Fantasy games in Enjoyment because there's so much to do and so many items to collect. However.. what really dissapointed me is the challenge in the bosses, however.. the puzzles in the game were rather hard at times. Squaresoft noticed the challenge was almost non-existant in this game (battles) and they noticably increased the challenge in FF7 and FF8. Great game!
FF7 (Final Fantasy VII): Playstation
Were playing the game. So far, Very Good.
<EricZLink's Comments: I am playing this game after FF8, and I have to say this game is very good. However.. the materia system really annoys me when I compare it with the Esper system in FF6 and the Junction GF system in FF8 (The Junction system rules.) But I still have to finish this game to fully rate it. Stand by.
FF8 (Final Fantasy VIII): Playstation
Plot: 10/NA
Music: 10/NA
Graphics: 10/NA
Enjoyment: 8.5/NA
<EricZLink's comments: with a deep storyline, outstounding music, and superb graphics, this is definetly one of the best games ever made. The junction system really is awesome (although that final boss kind of ruins it.. you'll see what I mean when you get to it.) This game has the greatest FMVs I've ever seen in anything and the movement of the characters looks real compared to many other motion-captured computer-animated films. This is probably the only game without a dumb/corny love story... the character's personalities are real and play a big role in the game. The only reason the Enjoyment went down a bit is because of some of the boring and monotonous parts in the game. Other than that.. this is a great movie.. err.. game to play.
Zelda 64_Orcarina of Time: N64
Plot: 9/9
Music: 9/8
Graphics: 10/9
Enjoyment: 10.5/9.99
-A very good game directed by the best directior in the bisness. A must play for game fans.
<EricZLink's comments: this game is probably the most fun game ever made up til now. The storyline is well made considering they had to work from the other titles' story. The graphics are amazing, perhaps they're not FF-quality graphics, but the N64 isn't capable of having many pre-rendered graphics. The soundscore by Koji Kondo is very lively and fits very well in the game. My personal favorite.
The Legend of Zelda: NES
Plot: 6/9
Music: 7/8
Graphics: 8/8
Enjoyment: 10/10
-My favorite game on the regular Nintendo. I play this all the time. A must for all Zelda fans.
<EricZLink's Comments: Not much of a plot for this game (The plot in Zelda II is definetly better), not much music, but the music there was great for a NES game. The graphics were above average and the enjoyment really made this one a winner. A must have.
Zelda 2_Link's Adventure: NES
Plot: 9/8
Music: 8.5/8
Graphics: 8.5/7.5
Enjoyment: 9/8
-A good game but not as good as the others. Never really got to the end.
<EricZLink's Comments: Perhaps not the best Zelda game out there, but when compared to other games.. this game really stands out. The plot was rather good (if you know it.. the game doesn't really explain it) and the music was improved. The graphics were also improved although the game play wasn't all too great. Still.. a fun game and quite a challenge.
Zelda 3_A Link to the Past: SNES
Plot: 8/9
Music: 9/9
Graphics: 9/9
Enjoyment: 10/10
-Very fun and entertaining. A must play for any Action or RPG fans.
<EricZLink's Comments: Great storyline and good music for a SNES game. The graphics are great compared to many games. A fun game that everyone should play.
Zelda 4_Link's Awakening: Game Boy
Plot: 10/9.5
Music: 9/8
Graphics: 8.5/8
Enjoyment: 10/9.75
-A immensly fun game. I recommend it.
<EricZLink's Comments: Great plot if you compare it with a lot of other game boy games. The "dream" factor of this game and the confusing events in this game really made this have a great plot. The music is great for a game boy game and the graphics are good too. This is definetly the most fun game I've ever played on Game Boy.. one of the few games I can play over and over without getting bored. (The Marin-following-Link part of the game is incredibly funny and fun to fool around with)
Chrono Trigger: SNES
Plot: 9.5/9
Music: 10/9
Graphics: 9/10
Enjoyment: 10/10
-A all around great game. For me and EriczLink, it's only second to FF6 and Zelda.
<EricZLink's Comments: Some people consider it to be the greatest RPG of all time. I don't really think it is (FF8 holds that spot in my opinion), but it perhaps is the most FUN RPG game I've ever played. A lot of RPG games can get rather annoying/boring.. but this game is fun all the way because of it's well-made battle design. A must play for all RPG fans.
Secret of Mana:
Plot: 9.4/NA
Music: 9.1/NA
Graphics: 8.5/NA
Enjoyment: 9/NA
<EricZLink's Comments: A Well designed game with lots of leveling up and lots to do. Quite a good game for strategy and the magic system is rather good. It can get too easy if you level up your magic to much.. so don't. This is definetly one of the best RPGs for the SNES. I can't wait to finish playing Seiken Densetsu III (sequel of SOM - looks far better from what I've seen so far.)
Alleyway: Game Boy
Plot: NA
Music: 5/6
Graphics: 4/6
Enjoyment: 7/9
-A fun but chalanging Game Boy game.
<EricZLink's Comments: This game kinda ticked me off but it was still sort of fun.
Tetris: NES and Game Boy
Plot: NA
Music: 5/7 (Good at times, Annoying at others)
Graphics: 5/6 (There aren't many graphics)
Enjoyment: 7.5/9
-The only game I have ever heard that has come from Russia. Too many sequels have been made for this game. The original is definetly the best.
<EricZLink's Comments: The new N64 versions go more into being action games than puzzle games, but they are still rather good. However, this game can still be said to be the best puzzle game on Game Boy. I didn't really enjoy it that much but many people do, I just feel kind of sore that Nintendo Power rated it #3 of all time when it didn't really deserve that spot.
Donkey Kong:
-There are three games with this title I am going to rate.
1. Donkey Kong (Original)
2. Donkey Kong (Game Boy)
3. Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Original: NES
Plot: 6/5 (Save the girl Mario. It's was getting old, even then.)
Music: 4/4
Graphics: 5/5
Enjoyment: 7/4
-I got bored of this game before I even finished it.
<EricZLink's Comments: This was Miyamoto's first big game. Even though I don't think it was as bad as Maxis said, I still thought it was rather fun, thanks to this game.. Miyamoto got attention and started to work on different games. So this game is definetly a milestone in gaming. Not a very bad game.
Donkey Kong: Game Boy
Plot: NA/5 (Same old plot)
Music: NA/7
Graphics: NA/9
Enjoyment: NA/9
-As you can see, they fixed this one up relly well.
Donkey Kong Country: SNES
Plot: 6/6 (Go get bananas is sort of boring)
Music: 9/8
Graphics: 10/9 (Pretty good for a SNES game)
Enjoyment: 9/7
-Eventhough I didn't like this game to much, the fact that it was a graphic mildstone in SNES had me play it once through.
<EricZLink's Comments: Perhaps the only bad thing about this is the fact that you're controlling stupid smelly apes. If it weren't for that.. I would've really had played this game an awful lot. The graphics are perhaps the best on the SNES (Rare started to really show its talent here.) A great game that keeps getting improved with the sequels to come.
Mario Bros.
I am going to rate this series by game.
1. Mario 1
2. Mario Dreamland
3. Mario 3
4. Super Mario World
5. Super Mario World 2
6. Super Mario RPG
7. Super Mario Land
8. Super Mario Land 2
9. Super Mario 64
1. Super Mario Brothers: NES
Plot: 5/4 (There was no need for a plot in this game)
Music: 5/5 (Funny and it gets stuck in your head)
Graphics: 7/5 (It's one of Nintendo's first games)
Enjoyment: 8.5/7
-A fun little game that started it all.
<EricZLink's Comments: Great game back then. This game really deserves to have some credit. The GBC version of it is great! The graphics weren't so bad for an NES game.
2. Super Mario in Dreamland (In America Super Mario 2): NES
Plot: 6/6
Music: 6/5
Graphics: 7/6.5
Enjoyment: 6/7
-Relesed in Japan as Mario in Dreamland, this game became popular in the early days of Nintendo. Released with Zelda, it quickly gained it's first compitition.
<EricZLink's Comments: The graphics improved.. however.. this isn't really Super Mario Bros. 2. So I feel uncomfortable rating this game.
3. Super Mario Brothers 3: NES
Plot: 7/6
Music: 8/5
Graphics: 8/7
Enjoyment: 10/8
-A fun little game that changed graphics of gaming systems forever. The best selling game ever.
<EricZLink's Comments: This game is fun fun fun fun! This is the only mario game that I think deserves to be known as the best game on a console. Thanks to this game, Nintendo started selling like crazy and had no competion at all. It still is the best-selling game ever (that wasn't included with a console.) A MUST play.
4. Super Mario World: SNES
Plot: NA/8
Music: NA/6
Graphics: NA/8.5
Enjoyment: NA/9
-Another great game. With the introduction of a race of funny dinosaurs, brought a new character that would star in it's own two games as time went on. Very fun.
<EricZLink's Comments: I never really finished playing this game.
5. Yoshi's Island: SNES
Plot: NA/8
Music: NA/7
Graphics: NA/8.5
Enjoyment: NA/8
-The sequel to Super Mario World. A pretty fun game with a very fun ending.
<EricZLink's Comments: I've never really played it. I bet it's good.
6. Legend of the Six Stars: SNES
Plot: 8/9.5
Music: 9.5/10
Graphics: 9.5/9.75 (For a Super NES game)
Enjoyment: 8/10
-My favorite Mario game and one of my favorite RPG's. Very long and entertaining. The end boss takes sooo long.
<EricZLink's Comments: The plot is too super mario bros-like but Squaresoft helped improve it a bit. The music is rather good although it sometimes doesn't fit the part. The graphics are exceptional and make the SNES use all its graphic power for it. The random battles kind of annoy you when you play the same thing over and over. Although part of the battle design is well done (duh.. it's Squaresoft)
7. Super Mario Land: Game Boy
Plot: 5/6
Music: 5/6
Graphics: 6/6
Enjoyment: 7/7
-A good game with wierd levels. My first Game Boy game.
<EricZLink's Comments: It's an addicting game for some reason. That hopefully might give you a good picture of what this game is like.
8. Super Mario Land 2: Game Boy
Plot: 8/7.5
Music: 7/6.5
Graphics: 7.5/8
Enjoyment: 8.5/8.5
-The fun but very different sequel to Mario Land. I have played it too many times so my enjoyment level went down.
<EricZLink's Comments: Very well made. One of the first games to have this kind of level design. Very well overworld layout and fun bosses. A rather good game.
9. Super Mario 64: N64
Plot: 8/8.5
Music: 9/8
Graphics: 9/9.5
Enjoyment: 10/9.5
-It's so fun riding down the hills and throwing Bowser around. I like this game alot.
<EricZLink's Comments: This game will keep you busy for quite a long time when playing it the first time around. Great graphics for the beginning of the N64 and a rather fun game. Great musical score by Koji Kondo.
10. Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
Plot: 8/NA
Music: 9/NA
Graphics: 9/NA
Enjoyment: 9/NA
<EricZLink's Comments: Not really a mario game. But it still plays just like a Mario game. The music is kind of addicting and the graphics are really good for a game boy game (no color.) This game is really fun and there's lots to do after you finish the game the first time through.
Banjoe Kazooe: N64
Plot: 7/NA
Music: 9.5/NA
Graphics: 10/NA
Enjoyment: 9.7/NA
<EricZLink's Comments: What really angered me about this great game was.... it's a complete rip-off of Super Mario 64. Sure.. it's better.. but it's all the same when you talk about objectives and game play. However... this is still a good game. It is better than Super Mario 64 in many ways and the worlds are HUGE when you compare them with Super Mario 64. Great game by Rare.
-
Excite Bike: NES
Plot: NA
Music: NA/4
Graphics: NA/6
Enjoyment: NA/9
-I love this game with it's fun tracks and ability to make your own. One of my favorites.
<EricZLink's Comments: Haven't played it.
Pokemon: Game Boy
Plot: 9.5/9
Music: 8/8.5
Graphics: 7.5/9
Enjoyment: 9.5/9
-A fun game with a ok ending. I like the game but not the hold it has on the public of America. The game was ok, but a show, cards, books, and non-RPG games of it are TOO MUCH.
<EricZLink's Comments: Really good game. However.. the way the American audience (the Japanese audience too) sees it, is really starting to get me sick. The game is starting to be directed toward little kids. The show isn't that bad but the dubbing really sucks. They put so much effort into it that they had to put one person to do the voice of those characters! However.. don't take me wrong, this is a very good game and has a great strategy. This is probably the longest game you'll ever play on Game Boy.
Yoshi's Story: N64
Plot: 6/7
Music: 7/8
Graphics: 9/9
Enjoyment: 7/8
-Neither me nor EricZLink liked this game very much. If you want to skip it, it's ok. It wasn't even directed by Shigeru Miyamoto. That's one good reason it's not too good.
<EricZLink's Comments: You heard him. I can't really remember if Miyamoto played a huge rule in the development of this game. Someone e-mail us telling us this. However.. this game is too short and easy. Too much went into the pre-rendered graphics in this game.
Golden Eye 007: N64
Plot: 9/9 (It came from a movie if you didn't know)
Music: 9/9
Graphics: 9/9.5
Enjoyment: 9/9.5
-A really great game. I played it too much but I still like it and suggest it to anyone who hasn't played it.
<EricZLink's Comments: I didn't really play it too much, but the storyline was good and this is the only first-person shooting game that I like. First person-shooting games are the only only kind of games I don't like, but this is an exception. The only thing I hate about this game is Natalya. AH!! She just HAS to get in my way doesn't she?!?!
Mischief Makers: N64
Plot: 9/9
Music: 8/9
Graphics: 9.5/9.5
Enjoyment: 10/9.5
-Maybe it's because I like Anime so much but this game is so fun. Much like the popular Anime Saber Marionette, this game deals with a cybernetic woman, (Much like Lime), who must protect an old man who has been taken hostage. Very good graphics and fun play control, it's like having Kirby's backdrop attack for the whole game. Try it, it's good.
<EricZLink's Comments: This game has a very funny and Anime-like plot. The music is quite good and the graphics are probably the best for a 2-d game (they have a point.. not like Yoshi's island.. where it's all too happy and pointless.) This game is one of the most fun games I've ever played and there's plenty to do. It should keep you busy for many hours if you wan to get every Gold gem in the game. Definetly better than Yoshi's Story.. however.. it didn't get as much attention as it should have.
World Cup Soccer 98: N64
Plot: NA (Play Soccer)
Music: 8/6
Graphics: 9.2/9.5
Enjoyment: 10/10
-Me and zLink have found a fun way to play the game where we can do anything we want to the players and get away with it. We are now trying to get a few RM video's avalible for download so you can witness how we kill the goalie then score the goal. Very funny.
<EricZLink's Comments: I've always loved soccer games and this is my favorite. I haven't played any of the follow-ups of this game since it is know that EA Sports sometimes doesn't really change the games a lot when they release a follow-up of another. However.. this game is very good.. there are some glitches in the game and a few freezing points but this game is very well designed. The game is probably the game that has made my laugh the most (do what -Maxis said... and beat up that goalie!) This is one of the games that I can keep playing just like Super Smash Bros whenever I'm bored. Never gets old.
Super Smash Bros.: N64
Plot: There's really no plot(Game Design): 10/10 (Beat up some of your favorite characters using there moves)
Music: 9/9.5 (All original themes. I love them.)
Graphics: 8.5/9.5
Enjoyment: 10.2/10
-Finnaly I can use Link to have some fun besides distroying Ganon. And now I can shut Jigglypuff up with a simple blast of Samus' Blaster. I think alot of us have thought up doing agame like this, well it's finnaly been made. Excellent!
<EricZLink's Comments: This is a truly funny game. It is very challenging when you play against your friends and even the computer can be somewhat of a challenge sometimes. Easy gameplay... however.. that doesn't mean it's easy. There's a lot of hidden stuff and it's really fun to play straight through all of it. Never gets old.
Meroid:
-There are three different Metroid's:
1. Metroid
2. Return of Samus
3. Super Metroid
1. Metroid: Nes
Plot: 7/8
Music: 6/6
Graphics: 7/5
Enjoyment: 8/6
-Although I don't like this one very much, my friend here, zLink, likes it and thinks it sould be rated. Well there you go.
<EricZLink's Comments: Very good game design for a NES game.. that's all I've got to say. It's the game that started the Metroid series and it really does have some good things. Quite challenging when you're trying to get the secrets.. however.. the bosses.. are.. um.. dissapointing.
2. Metroid II - Return of Samus:
Plot: 7/9
Music: 10/10
Graphics:9.5/9
Enjoyment: 9.6/9.5
-I love the challenge this game has. No matter how many times I beat it, I can't pass the time of 1 hour 24 minites. This game has superb graphics and outstanding music, especialy the ending theme. If you like action games at all, you'll like this one.
<EricZLink's Comments: Very well designed game for Game Boy. The game can freak out a little kid once they get to the ending parts of this game (I've seen it happen). The music is spooky and adds to the drama of the moment. Very exciting and challenging game. A must play.
3. Metroid III - Super Metroid:
Plot: 8.5/9
Music: 9.5/9
Graphics: 10/9.75
Enjoyment: 10/10
-I love this game and suggest it to anyone who likes any of the other metroids or just Action games in general. Great!
<EricZLink's Comments: This game is awesome. The music is very good an fits well into the game play. The game design is very good and the challenge has finally gone way up when it comes to beating those bosses. The graphics are outstanding and probably the best when it comes to actually having graphics that take a big role in game play (those backgrounds kick butt!) A must play for any video game fan.
Kirby:
-I have played these two kirby games:
<EricZLink also played Kirby's Dreamland 2
1. Kirby's Adventure
2. Kirby's Dreamland
3. Kirby's Dreamland 2
1. Kirby's Adventure:
Plot: 8/9
Music: 9.55/9.5
Graphics: 10/9
Enjoyment: 10/10
-I love to play this game over and over again. This game has super nintendo graphics and outstanding music. I have to say that this is my favorite NES game. If you get a chance, play this game. Very Very Fun.
<EricZLink's Comments: This game is quite challenging and very fun. I couldn't believe this was an NES game, anybody who sees this probably thinks it's a SNES game. The game is long and there's a LOT of stuff to do. Very very fun and.. well.. can the graphics get any better than THIS on an NES? Truly outstanding.
2. Kirby's Dreamland:
Plot: 7/7
Music: 9.1/9
Graphics: 7.5/9
Enjoyment: 8.5/9
-Not as fun or good as Kirby's Adventure but still fun and a classic game. Definitly one of my favorite Game Boy games.
<EricZLink's Comments: Probably not as good as Kirby's Adventure, but that's because this game was made before the NES game. The game is a good start and it's very short but fun. It usually takes me 12:50 minutes to beat this game (that's what kept me playing this.. just to see how fast I could go.)
3. Kirby's Dreamland 2:
Plot: 9/NA
Music: 9.3/NA
Graphics: 8.7/NA
Enjoyment: 9.2/NA
<EricZLink's Comments: This game was really upgraded from the past game. However.. this game still doesn't beat the NES game. But this is a really good game since you have buddies to help you out and there's tons of stuff to do. Plays much like Kirby's Adventure.. although there's more of everything in the NES game.
Pinball Games:
1. Kirby's Pinball Land:
Plot: 8.5/NA
Music: 7/NA
Graphics: 8.6/NA
Enjoyment: 9.4/NA
<EricZLink's Comments: This game actually has somewhat of a plot compared to other pinball games that don't even have a plot. The music is good for a pinball game and the sound effects are good. The graphics are well made for a pinball game and the play control and smooth and perfect for a game like this.
2. Pokemon Pinball
Plot: 6/NA
Music: 8.2/NA
Graphics: 8.7/NA
Enjoyment: 9.1/NA
<EricZLink's Comments: I thought in some ways Kirby's Pinball Land was better because it was bigger and had more tables. Pokemon Pinball will keep you playing for a long time because there's plenty of Pokemon to "capture" and there's a lot of objectives to overcome. However.. I will have to say that the play control is a bit frustrating sometimes and the game can be very cheap on you. That's why the challenge goes up a lot and it's hard to do many things unless you're lucky and you keep getting the Pikachu kick-back. The sound effects are a bit too happy but still good.
